Autodesk uses Apps to Democratize Design
New apps are transforming how we learn, and how we participate in the design process both as consumers and as professionals. Design is being democratized with mobile applications.
You no longer have to have a degreen in design to interact with your architect or landscape designer...or other consultant. Autodesk is making design easier for the amateur, the consumer: Autodesk says "...for the past 25 years we've been democratizing design tools. It used to be that you had to have a lot of training to use most of our products. You still do, but the barriers to entry are lower." Apps for the iPhone and iPad Homestyler is a web app that lets you decorate a 3-D model of your home.
Homestyler let's consumers design and decorate their own homes with ... products! It is actually a way to help product manufacturers market their products. And a way for busy people to show their consultants what they have in mind...and need additional help with. And an easy way for professionals to communicate and collaborate with their clients. Sketchbook is an iPhone/iPad app that brings the power of PhotoShop style illustration to your fingertip
Certification isn't as important today as a portfolio ... or implementing your own design projects. Individuals are increasingly becoming independent designers. In five years 3-D printing could very well be at the stage that an individual can sketch out a chair and take it to the future equivalent of a printshop to have it manufactured based on your own design, and your own digital file.. That's the direction the Internet age is moving. Innovation and design will become more accessible, and more important for professionals to develop as a comfort zone. Change will not only become your "friend", it will become your heartbeat! |
